Joseph John Tylor

British engineer and archaeologist; he was born 6 Aug. 1851, son of Alfred T., FGS, AMICE, and Isabella Harris; he retired from business in 1891 on account of ill health contracted while professionally engaged in Mexico; in association with Somers Clarke and others he undertook much work at el-Kab, and financed the publication of a fine series of memoirs on the wall-paintings and monuments there; he bequeathed his library to University College London, with duplicates to Oxford; he died at Villa La Guérite, La Turbie, 5 April 1901.
