Lieutenant Colonel Fred Waite (1885-1952) was a prominant politician and community member in Auckland. He was based in Cairo from 1941-44 where he acquired artefacts for the Otago Museum and became the honorary keeper of Middle Eastern archaeology. He published a volume on predynastic pottery (Waite, Fred 1951. Egyptian Predynastic pottery. Otago Museum handbook 1. Dunedin, NZ: Otago Museum).
