1909-10 Gamhut (Faiyum)

Type of fieldwork:
Excavation
Season summary:

The excavations were sponsored by the Graeco-Roman branch and thus were concerned with recovering papyri from the Graeco-Roman period rather than objects or material from different time periods.

The season started 6th November and ended 12th November in the Ptolemaic cemetery. The site had been excavated by Tadeusz Smolenski and Ahmed Bey Kamal in 1906-07 and 1907-08, and the unexcavated area was looted just before the excavators arrived. The excavators recovered two small boxes of mostly demotic papyri and some cloth cartonnage.
