Professor Stevenson (1869-1954) was the chair of Hebrew and Semitic languages at the University of Glasgow and contributed to excavations on behalf of the Janet May Buchanan Collection, a figure of considerable importance to the collection of Egyptological objects in the early 20th century until her tragic early death in 1912.
Stevenson was an active committe member of the Glasgow Egyptian Research Students' Association and the Glasgow Egypt Society.
