Listed as BM Franks. Whether this was shorthand for the British Museum acquisitions or for his personal collection is unknown. Sir Augustus Wollaston Franks (1826-1897) was appointed assistant in the British Museum in 1851 and spent 45 years building the institution and was considered on the great collectors of the period. At his death he bequethed much of his personal collection to the nation.
