The excavations were sponsored by the Graeco-Roman branch and thus were concerned with recovering papyri from the Graeco-Roman period rather than objects or material from different time periods.

Excavations at the site started on December 9, picked because it was a known source of papyri. Papyri was recovered from domestic contexts, particularly noteworthy are the personal records of Lucius Bellenus Gemellus, a wealthy Roman citizen. Other finds included domestic articles in a variety of materials, ostraca, coins, and pottery. Areas of the temple that had not been excavated by the locals were cleared and more papyri was recovered, espeically notable was a pot which contained a bronze incence burner and other implements. The excavators only note that the results in the cemetery were poor.
