A museum at Wellesley College - a liberal arts Women's College - was formed in 1889 as the Farnsworth Art Building. The early curriculum of the institution focussed on painting and drawing, including study of original art objects. A new building - the Davis Museum and Cultural Center ​- opened in 1993.
