The Museum of Ancient Cultures, Macquarie University, was originally founded as the Ancient History Teaching Collection in 1974 and renamed the Museum of Ancient Cultures in 1994. The Museum houses a collection of over 7000 objects from the ancient world, including Egypt, Greece, Rome and the Near East, and the largest papyrus collection in the Southern Hemisphere.

Notes on distribution: 

In the 1970s, the Australian Museum placed a portion of its Egyptian collection, including objects obtained from British-led excavations, on permanent loan to both the University of Sydney and Macquarie University, Sydney.
