The Hamilton College in Clinton was found in 1793 as the Hamilton-Oneida Academy, becoming a college in 1812. The College’s museum, The Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art, is a teaching museum that was opened by Keith Wellin in 2012, replacing Hamilton’s Emerson Gallery. It contains over 7,000 artefacts from a number of regions including a collection from the ancient Near East, Egypt, Greece, Etruria and Rome.
