The location of the Fund's American offices was at Dr. Winslow's house. It is possible that the objects bound for the offices were meant to be distributed to institutions or smaller concerns like schools or perhaps for committee members.
At the begining of the 20th century subscriptions from America were less reliable on account institutions and universities had started funding their own excavations, this was also aided by Winslow's erratic behaviour and accusations against the London office and against the secretary of the US branch, Marie Buckman. See: Drower 1985: 285-7.
