Site description:

Shaganbeh was an ancient fortified town whose remains are overlaid by the modern village.  Local tradition associated the site with the patriarch Joseph and the hopes for Biblical era remains influenced the decision to excavate the site. The settlement consists of well-preserved buildings, as well as granaries and a cemetery from dynasties 22-24.
