The excavator was interested in the rubbish piles from the caves which had been occupied by a Coptic community. It seems a Late Egyptian and a Coptic cemetery was partially explored, as well as a section of densely packed houses.
Artefacts recovered include: Coptic ostraca, faience sherds, ceramics, stone vessels, glass, leather items, basketwork, papyri, and vellum.
