John de Monins Johnson

British papyrologist; he was born at Kirmington, Lincs., 17 May 1882, son of Revd John Henry J. and Anna Braithwaite Savory; he was educated at Magdalen College School and Exeter College, Oxford; he served in the Egyptian Civil Service, 1905-7; he returned to Oxford and studied under Hunt, 1908-11; he excavated for the Graeco-Roman branch of the EES at Atfih, 1911 and Antinoe, 1913-4; he joined the Oxford University Press in 1915 and was appointed Printer to the University, 1925; he died in Oxford, 15 Sept. 1956.
