Buhen

Site description:

The construction of the Aswan High Dam in 1964 has completely submerged Buhen, and all the other monuments along this stretch of the Nile. The former Egyptian mud brick fortress outpost lay on the West bank of the Nile on the border of Nubia, Sudan. The only surviving element is the temple of Horus which was built by Hatshepsut, and which was relocated to Khartoum before the building of the dam.
