Institutional history:

The Pasadena Art Institute existed from 1924 to 1970; it then became the Pasadena Museum of Modern Art, which lasted until 1974 when Mr Simon took over. The focus of the museum on modern art began to shift in 1953 with the receipt of several hundred works of modern art which the museum increasingly committed to acquire. Inventory records unfortunately do not start until 1946, so the Norton Simon Museum do not have exact acquisition details as to the years 1924 and 1932. In 1946, around 141 objects were cataloged to have Egyptian origin; none of which remain in the collection. Some were deaccessioned at Parke-Bernet Sale no 2834 of April 4 1969 [with thanks to Marsha Hill for the information].
