Bryn Mawr College has a collection of over 50,000 objects encompasing fine and decorative art, archaeology, anthropology and geology. The earliest donations of archaeological material was for the newly formed department of archaeology in 1901.

Egyptian material entered the collection as gifts from the American Exploration Society, the institution which Sara Yorke Stevenson founded to raise funds for the collection at the University of Pennsylvania Museum and to explore the potential of launching an American excavation. The American Exploration Society received objects from Petrie's excavations.
