The Königliches Museum (known today as the Altes Museum) was opened in 1830, commissioned by King Friedrich Wilhelm III of Prussia, and constructed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel to house the city’s collection of fine arts. Today the museum displays the Collection of Classical Antiquities (Greek, Ertruscan and Roman art and culture).
